Recording of the GOALS 2000 Satellite Town Meeting, hosted by Secretary of Education, Richard W. ("Dick") Riley. The six goals discussed were: 1.) Attending school ready to learn. 2.) Increasing the high school graduation rate by 90%. 3.) Making sure students are competent in core academic subjects. 4.) Making sure American students reign first in the world in science and math. 5.) Making sure every adult is literate and will possess skills to compute in a global economy. 6.) Making every school a safe, disciplined, and drug-free zone. Segment #1: Ernest L. Boyer is feautured as a guest discussing "Ready to Learn: A Mandate for the Nation." Boyer believes that goal number one is the most essential. Segment #2: Panel discussion with Barbara Kamara, Director of the DC Office of Early Childhood Development, Robert E. Campbell, Chairman of Johnson & Johnson, and Carol Scott of the Independence Missouri School District. |
